Instagram tests image and video upload from desktop
What is the new update?
Instagram is working on a live test of the ability to post Instagram images and videos from a desktop. Users will be able to click the “+” icon at the top of the Instagram bar. This enables users to upload their videos and images from their PC. Instagram users will also be able to access the in-app tools for the editing and posting options on the desktop version.
How will this affect businesses?
The latest update can be beneficial for social media managers who can now easily edit their images and videos in other apps and post them on Instagram straight from their PC. This also allows social media managers to copy and paste their social media posts from other platforms and simply post them on Instagram.
Instagram launches Reels ads worldwide
What are Instagram Reels ads?
Instagram has already placed ads all over the app. After testing Reels ads in select countries in April, Instagram is ready to take Reels worldwide. The ads will display in full screen and up to 30 seconds long, similar to Instagram stories, and will appear in between individual reels.
Users can view, like, save and share reels ads. They will appear in stories, on feeds and on the explore page and can be identified by a small “sponsored” sign at the top of the Reel.
How can brands benefit from Reels ads?
Reels can be a prominent way for users to discover new content and new businesses on Instagram. The new creative format will assist businesses in reaching more audiences by allowing users to discover content from various creators. Any brand size, big or small, can use Reels ads to entertain users with their content. The latest feature can be recognised as a way for brands to reach potential customers and gain brand awareness by catering to new users.
Instagram says, “Reels is the best place on Instagram to reach people who don’t follow you and a growing global stage where brands and creators can be discovered by anyone. These ads will help businesses reach greater audiences, allowing people to discover inspiring new content from brands and creators.”
Twitter works on new controls over who can mention you in their tweets
It is inevitable that any Twitter user has, at some point, been mentioned by people they would rather not be mentioned by. If this is the case for you, then this update is definitely one to keep your eyes peeled for.
Twitter can be known as the platform to discuss controversial topics in hope to gain likes to create awareness and debates. This can also lead to unwanted attention where users mention you in their tweets. Luckily, Twitter has introduced a new feature where you have control over who mentions you in tweets.
What is the new feature?
This new Twitter feature would entail being able to remove your Twitter name from anybody’s tweet. There will be an option in the tweet that would ask if you would like to “Un-mention yourself from this conversation”. Your Twitter handle would then be disconnected from the tweet, and become unclickable. This allows you to remove yourself from any further engagement with a specific person.
Alongside this, Twitter is also working on a new feature to allow users to receive a notification when a person has been mentioned by somebody they don’t follow. This will also give a user the option to remove themselves from the conversation. Both new features contribute to decreasing negative online experiences and steer clear of unwanted attention.
Facebook trials public comments display on Facebook stories
What is the new update?
The new feature entails displaying comments and replies to a user’s Facebook story on the story frame itself. This is different to the current layout where there is just a single ‘send message’ button. People’s response options are split into two, with either leaving a ‘Message’ to privately reply to the story, or posting a public ‘Comment’ that would be displayed on the story.
To ensure the user is aware that the story they are posting will allow users to comment publicly, a note appears before posting the story reading ‘Comments on this story are visible to the public.’
What opportunities does the update create?
The new format allows for a new way to engage with Stories content. It displays how others have interacted with and responded to the story that could trigger more reactions from users who want to share their thoughts. However, this does depend on how many comments are displayed on the screen and if we can see all comments.
This new feature can allow for discussion between customers who may want to discuss products or services, recommend brands, or ask questions to a business. This reveals to the company who is showing interest in their products.
Facebook is bringing Shops to WhatsApp
What is the update?
Facebook is experimenting with pushing e-commerce on its apps. The Shops feature is similar to Facebook’s e-commerce integration and will allow users to purchase products after discovering them on WhatsApp.
The update will be able to view a person’s shopping preference and send them to where they are most likely to purchase a product.
How can it create brand awareness?
It gives a simple way for users to find relevant products and connect with the company to discover more information.
Zuckerberg says: “We’re bringing Shops to WhatsApp which will make it easier for people to find the products or brands that they want to engage with.”
In an effort to broaden its usage, Facebook has been attempting to add more business tools into the app. Bringing Shops to WhatsApp is a great way to allow companies to introduce their shop and products within the app.
It can create brand awareness for businesses and can attract new customers by displaying products they may be interested in. Another positive is Zuckerberg reports that brands will only need to set up their shop on one app for it to work across Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook.
With eCommerce constantly on the rise, it seems as though Facebook is keeping up with the trends and often offer new formats to try out.
